WEO labels floods in Europe as a major concern

GENEVA: World Environment Organization (WEO) has described rising temperatures as a major threat to Europe following the devastating floods in Europe.
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has issued a warning that devastating floods in various Western European countries are the result of heavy rainfall, and that all countries should take all necessary precautions to avoid disasters brought on by climate change.
According to a WMO source, the scenes in Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands this week are “certainly disturbing.” He cautioned that, as a result of climate change, we will see more of these instances in the sweltering heat.
Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands, according to the World Meteorological Organization, experienced two months’ worth of rain in just two days from July 14 to 15, which is exceedingly dangerous, with reports of 100 in Germany and Belgium by Friday morning. More deaths have been verified, and a substantial number of individuals are still missing.
The floods, according to WMO spokeswoman Claire Knowles, have also harmed security measures made by industrialised countries, as UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated in a statement. Europe is prepared, but it is tough to cope when it rains for two months in two days.
“As the atmosphere warms, it’s getting more humid, which means there will be more rain during the storms, which will increase the risk of flooding,” said Claire Knowles.
