Sir Creek is one of the long standing disputes between Pakistan and India. While border disputes and issues arose after the partition of India, the dispute between the two countries has been going on since 1965.

Sir Creek is the area of Pakistan that India wants to occupy. The area was once known as Jan Ganga and was later renamed Sir Creek by a British officer during the British Raj.

Geographically, it is considered to be a swampy area which is part of Sindh province. This watershed can be called a bay, a gulf and a tributary. There are natural resources in this area of Sir Creek and India is keeping an eye on these gas and oil reserves. The area was home to waterfowl before the partition of India.

In view of the geographical and border importance of the region, Pak-India talks have been held to resolve the dispute, but no results have been reached.

The waterway between the two countries is 96 km long and is connected to India (in the Run of Kutch area), Indian Gujarat and Sindh province in Pakistan. The demarcation of the region is a real and important issue and Pakistan has been putting its position in this regard before the international community, including India, and has taken the initiative to negotiate for it.

It should be noted that many such areas could not be decided or demarcated at the time of Partition of India and Sir Creek is one of them.
