WHO warns rising COVID cases in Asia are ‘just tip of the iceberg’

Mar 16, 2022: The head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has warned of another large-scale corona virus outbreak, saying that after several weeks of decline, there have been reports of a global outbreak of COVID 19 specially in Asia.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has warned that the increasing COVID-19 cases in Asia are just the “tip of the iceberg” even though the cases have been seeing a decline over the last few weeks.
“These increases are occurring despite reductions in testing in some countries, which means the cases we are seeing are just the tip of the iceberg. And we know that when COVID19 cases increase, so do deaths.”
He warned cases are on the rise depsite reduced testing which signals the actual number of cases may be higher.
He suggested that the real spread of the virus is “way more alarming” than what the numbers are showing.
He issued a stern warning and reminded the people that with the increase in covid cases, the number of deaths has will also increase. “That’s why precautions are necessary,” he said.
Tedros added that the world is seeing a huge number of cases in areas where no safety measures are being taken. Cases are particularly high in areas where vaccines are not widely available.
He called on all countries to remain vigilant and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), vaccinate and take steps to protect the public and health workers.
“The pandemic is not over,” Tedros reminded everyone.
