Why Pakistan needs Environmental Laws Urgently | Baaghi TV

Pakistan is facing severe environmental challenges that require immediate attention. Among the most critical issues are deforestation, water pollution, air pollution, and land pollution.

Deforestation not only contributes to global warming but also leads to erosion and coastal flooding, destroying habitats for animals and plants. Trees also absorb carbon dioxide and regulate the water cycle, which is essential in a country like Pakistan with extreme weather conditions where unfortunately people depend on timber to keep warm and to cook in areas where gas is either scarce or not available.

Water pollution is also a severe problem in Pakistan. A lot of chemical waste and toxic substances are released into the water, making it unfit for consumption. Industrial waste and poor sewage systems are major contributors to this issue.

Lahore, in particular, experiences heavy smog during the winter, highlighting the problem of air pollution. The increase of vehicles and burning of fossil fuels, as well as the smoke released by factories and cars, are significant causes of air pollution.

Land pollution is another issue that needs to be addressed. Improperly managed waste disposal systems result in garbage littered in open plots of land, causing unpleasant smells, diseases, and pollution. The government’s feeble attempt to ban plastic shopping bags alone is not enough.

Climate change has also brought devastating floods, leaving millions of people homeless and destroying lands and agricultural fields. Pakistan is among the 20 countries at risk of excessive rainfall due to the El Nino oceanographic phenomenon, according to a recent report by the Global Information and Early Warning System (GIEWS) of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. Pakistan urgently needs to develop comprehensive policies and laws to address these environmental issues. Environmental protection laws are essential to ensure that individuals, corporations, and institutions are held accountable for their actions and the resulting damage to the environment. The government must take the lead in developing and implementing effective policies that address these issues and ensure a sustainable future for Pakistan.

It is a good attempt on the part of author how different types of pollutions are harmful for the environment in which we live/survive. Main issue is how to get rid of every type of pollution but
it requires a systematic concentrated and carefully made plan/policy while consulting all stake holders involved in it. It must be implemented by both public and private agencies collectively with a missionery zeal.
