Willie Garson: Sex and the City star dies aged 57
Sept 22, 2021: Willie Garson, best known for his role as Stanford Blach, a talent agent in Sex and the City, has died at the age of 57.
In the hit HBO series, he played a close friend and confidant of Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw.
Garson was also known as Conman Mozi in the TV series White Collar. The cause of his death has not been disclosed. Born in New Jersey in 1964 in William Garson Passament, Garson studied theater and earned a master’s degree in fine arts from the Yale School of Drama.
Willie Garson has since played minor roles in several popular television series in the 1980s, including Chairs, Family Ties and LA Law. He also appeared in some of the 1990’s hit shows, such as The X-Files, Boy Meets World and Friends.
In 1998, Sex and the City debuted and Garson appeared throughout the season as Stanford Blach, a role he reprinted in two franchise films.
Mario Canton, who played Willie Garson’s on-screen partner Anthony Marantino, wrote on Instagram: “I’m devastated and overwhelmed with sadness … you were a gift from the gods.” Cynthia Nixon, who played Miranda Hobbes in the series, said: “We all loved him and loved working with him. He was so funny on screen and in real life. It was a source of light, friendship and show business. “
Michael Patrick King, executive producer of Sex and the City and the like, said Garson was working “even when he was ill” without giving details. “His dedication to his soul and his skills was present every day,” he said in a statement. “Everyone will remember his many gifts as an actor and as a person.”
