August 25, 2021: The World Bank has announced the closure of all aid to Afghanistan following Taliban control in the nation.

According to reports, over two dozen World Bank development projects have been underway in Afghanistan. However, now with the Taliban in power, the situation in Afghanistan has become worrying, and as such, the situation is closely being reviewed, the World Bank has stated.

So far, the World Bank has given $5.3 billion to Afghanistan, mostly involving aid.

It should be noted that according to Afghan media, the Taliban have appointed Mullah Abdul Qahar as the acting head of the Central Bank of Afghanistan.

Afghan media reports further state that Mullah Abdul Qahar, popularly known as Haji Muhammad Idris by the Taliban, also directed the staff to return to work during the meeting after his appointment as the Central Bank Chief.

The Central Bank Chief’s posting is an important one, Afghan media reports say, and welcome for the Afghan people worried about the closure of most banks in Afghanistan.
