World military shooting championship begins in Lahore

Oct 3, 2021: The World Military Shooting Championship 2021 has begun in Lahore, with more than 50 international shooters participating in the event, according to the ISPR.

The ISPR says the event will see over 50 participants compete, including 41 international shooters, which will continue till Oct 9.

The ISPR statement read, “Opening ceremony of 53rd World Military Shooting Championship (Shotgun) 2021 was held at Lahore today under the auspices of Conseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM), commonly known as International Military Sports Council,”

Saying shooters from Guinea, Iran and Nepal will be a part of the event, the statement further added, “More than 50 participants including 41 international shooters from Russia, France, Sri Lanka, Palestine, Kenya are participating in the event with motto FRIENDSHIP THROUGH SPORTS.”

The CISM international shooting championship is being organised at Lahore Garrison Shooting Gallery of the Pakistan Army.

The communique further stated that, “Corps Commander Lahore, Lieutenant General Muhammad Abdul Aziz was the chief guest at the ceremony.

Commenting on the opening, the ISPR said, “Representatives of CISM, large number of dignitaries, diplomats and spectators witnessed the colourful and impressive opening ceremony.”

According to the statement, this was the second time that Pakistan was hosting the International Military Championship.

The current edition of the competition will run until October 9, 2021 at the Lahore Garrison Shooting Gallery, which includes various shotgun shooting events, including trap and skate shooting for both men and women.

In March this year, the 4th International Pakistan Army Team Spirit (PATS) Competition 2021 was held at the National Counter-Terrorism Center in Pabbi near Kharian. According to ISPR, eight national teams of Pakistan Army competed with teams from eight allied countries.

According to the ISPR, eight domestic teams of the Pakistan Army along with teams from eight allied countries participated in the competition.

The military’s media wing said on the occasion that teams from Jordan, Sri Lanka, Turkey and Uzbekistan took part as participants whereas Morocco, Indonesia, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan participated as observers in this three-day-long competition.

The competition was designed to test tactical skills in physical and professional domains as well as the agility of the participating teams to generate responses in challenging real-time field scenarios.
