World’s largest floating book fair attracts book lovers to Iraq’s Basra city, reported Reuters.

A large crowd gathered on this specially-built berth to receive the ‘Logos Hope’ ship in Basra, Iraq, eager to discover the many titles onboard the world’s largest floating book fair.

The southern Iraqi city of Basra hosts the largest floating book fair, Logos Hope, from March 26 to April 7, 2023.

The ship remains in each port for several weeks and opens the gangways to thousands of visitors each day. An average of one million visitors have been welcomed on board of the ship every year.

The floating book fair offers over five thousand titles, providing many visitors with first-ever opportunity to purchase quality literature.

With its team from 60 different nationalities, the Logos Hope community is considered a genuine expression of international goodwill and understanding.

The crew and staff are all non-salaried volunteers, including many serving in their professional capacity, such as seafarers, engineers, electricians, nurses, teachers and cooks.

Sponsorship from friends, family members and civil organizations enables crewmembers to serve on board.

Visitors often express surprise that people from so many different cultures can live and work together peacefully in such a small space.
