Willpower is the capacity to execute your intentions with self-control. It enables you to resist cravings and remain focused on your goals. For instance, avoiding the temptation to scroll through social media or sleep in can help you achieve both short- and long-term objectives. Willpower is built on self-discipline, determination, and motivation. For example, you might forgo costly activities to save money. You refrain from buying expensive outings because your goal is to save money.

Your will power makes you tenacious & focused on your goals. Did you lose your job? A loved one? Are you finding it difficult to handle your household budget? With your eye on your goal, you will strive to come up with strategies, to achieve what you wish to achieve.

Your aspirations must be about setting measurable targets, making them realistic, and having the willpower to follow them through. To increase your chances of success, don’t set goals that are too strict and don’t let one slip-up convince you the whole day is a write-off.

However, the prolonged stress of resistance makes you tired, drains your self-control, and leads you to give up more often. I speak from personal experience. When this happens & I assure you it will, create a balance. Give yourself a reward for the efforts made- maybe dinner in your favorite place, or buying yourself a treat; maybe your loved perfume. Then you refocus!

Learning how to increase your willpower sustainably will also help you avoid the negative toll and positively impact your decision-making skills. Easier said than done though! I feel, there is no general formula that applies to one & all. In my own case, it’s brisk walking. It helps me meditate & focus. For some gym or yoga works better.

An excellent method is also to apply delayed gratification. You may like to refuse yourself daily food deliveries and save for something you want. A new laptop maybe? The new outfit that is absolutely you and way above your budget. You can get it-if you refuse yourself smaller gratifications routinely.

Not that I would quote Adolf Hitler, but would agree when he says, “If freedom is short of weapons, we must compensate with willpower.”
