Pakistan Air Force plane left for Beijing
BAAGHITV: A Pakistan Air Force plane has left for Beijing to receive the first consignment of Verona vaccine. Five lakh doses of the vaccine will reach Pakistan from China tomorrow.
It has been informed that arrangements for storage of Corona vaccine have been completed in Pakistan. In the first phase, front line workers will be vaccinated.
Earlier, the Federal Minister for Planning and Head of the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC) had announced that he had received a letter from Kovacs providing 17 million AstraZeneca vaccine doses.
On social networking site Twitter, Federal Minister for Planning Asad Omar gave great good news to the nation, saying that he had received a letter from Kovacs providing 17 million AstraZeneca vaccine doses.
He said the Corona AstraZeneca vaccine would be available from February, with 6 million vaccines available by March. All 17 million doses will be received in the first half of 2021. The agreement was reached eight months ago with Kovacs to ensure the availability of the vaccine.
Covex is an alliance of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), the Coalition for Epidemic Prevention Innovations (CEPI) and the World Health Organization (WHO), which was formed in April last year. The coalition is committed to providing free corona vaccine to 20% of the population in various countries, including Pakistan.
Pakistan has so far approved three corona vaccines, including Oxford-AstraZeneca, China’s Cyanoform and Russia’s Sputnik Five vaccines. However, the AstraZeneca vaccine has been the subject of controversy as its effectiveness has been called into question, and it could face legal action if the EU delays the delivery of the vaccine.
The Robert Koch Institute in Germany questioned its effectiveness for people over the age of 65, citing data from experimental stages of the vaccine.
