30 suspected cases of Omicron reported in Kalat: Balochistan health authority #Baaghi

Dec 22, 2021: According to a report by Geo News on Wednesday, provincial health department officials are quoted as saying that at least 30 suspected cases of COVID-19 omicron type have been detected in Kalat district of Balochistan.

The National Command and Operations Center (NCOC), however, has not yet confirmed any incidents of tension in the district. Dr Naqibullah Niazi, in-charge of Corona Virus Operation Cell in Balochistan, told Geo News that suspicious cases have come to light in the last two days.

He said that samples taken from suspected patients were being sent to National Institute of Health (NIH) Islamabad for verification.

The Balochistan Health Department has written a letter to the District Health Officer of Kalat instructing him to identify the suspected patients and isolate them. In addition, doctors have been told to be careful. Meanwhile, Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Qaddos Bizenjo expressed concern over the suspicious presence of Omicron type in Kalat and demanded a report from the health department.

Apart from the latest suspected cases of Kalat in Pakistan so far, one confirmed and another suspected case of Omicron has been reported.

The Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) confirmed on December 13 that it had detected the first case of omicron-type corona virus in Pakistan through gene sequencing – with no travel history.

The second case of coronavirus was reported from Karachi, Sindh Health Department sources said over the weekend.
