Lahore, 7th January: World leaders have strongly reacted to the Capitol attack in Washington, US that took place on Wednesday.

Baaghi TV: World leaders have condemned violent scenes in Washington after supporters of US President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol building.

As per reports, pro-Trump protesters stormed Capitol Hill as a joint sitting of both houses of Congress was taking place. The action forced the suspension of a joint session to certify Joe Biden’s electoral victory.

 

Many leaders called for peace and said what happened was horrifying and an attack on democracy.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson condemned the disgraceful scenes.

 

He wrote on Twitter, “The United States stands for democracy around the world and it is now vital that there should be a peaceful and orderly transfer of power.”

 

Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon tweeted that the scenes from the US Capitol were utterly horrifying.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez wrote, “I have trust in the strength of US democracy. The new presidency of Joe Biden will overcome this tense stage, uniting the American people.”

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez further expressed, “The US Congress ratifies the victory of Joe Biden after a fateful day. Yesterday’s attack on Capitol Hill has only succeeded in reaffirming the principles we share. Spain will work with the United States for a more just world and the triumph of democracy over extremism.”

French President Emmanuel Macron said in a video on his Twitter account, “When, in one of the world’s oldest democracies, supporters of an outgoing president take up arms to challenge the legitimate results of an election, a universal idea – that of ‘one person, one vote’ – is undermined.”

“What happened today in Washington DC is not American, definitely. We believe in the strength of our democracies. We believe in the strength of American democracy” he added.

Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven described the incident as worrying and said it was an assault on democracy.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern tweeted, “Democracy – the right of people to exercise a vote, have their voice heard and then have that decision upheld peacefully – should never be undone by a mob. Our thoughts are with everyone who is as devastated as we are by the events of today. I have no doubt democracy will prevail.”

In India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who shared a good relationship with President Trump, said he was distressed to see news about rioting and violence in Washington.

 

He tweeted, “Orderly and peaceful transfer of power must continue. The democratic process cannot be allowed to be subverted through unlawful protests.”

It may be remembered that supporters of the US President Donald Trump broke into the Capitol building after storming the police line in Washington yesterday.
