The Pakistan Navy’s efforts are aimed at enhancing various capabilities by promoting joint cooperation between regional and other navies. In this exercise, the forces of many countries come together on a single platform. The crew and delegates on ships from different countries interact with the officers and men of the Pakistan Navy.
In 2007, the Pakistan Navy launched a series of joint naval exercises in the name of peace. Apart from Pakistan, the navies of other countries in the Indian Ocean region and beyond also took part in the exercises. The exercises are aimed at enhancing the cooperation between the navies of these countries and enhancing their capabilities during joint operations to bring peace to the Indian Ocean, and to ensure security effectively. The joint naval exercise, held in 2007, was the first of its kind and involved navies from 28 countries.
Impressed by its success, it was decided that such exercises would be held every two years. So far, six such exercises have been conducted and the seventh exercise will be held in the first quarter of this year, i.e. 2021. The usefulness and importance of these exercises can be gauged from the fact that more than 45 countries have confirmed their participation in this year’s exercise.
This underscores the important role that these joint naval exercises, launched in the name of peace, have played in promoting international cooperation for regional security. This is because the exercises involve ships from countries that, although located far from the Indian Ocean region, have important ties with countries around the Indian Ocean.

In addition, the Indian Ocean is an important part of the global oil supply. Therefore, by participating in these exercises, these countries are in fact ensuring the security of their national economy and security. These include countries such as the United States, which has a large number of naval warships in the Indian Ocean, including aircraft carriers and submarines.
The ships belong to the 5th US Navy and, under Central Command, are permanently based in the Arabian Sea, the Gulf of Oman, Bahrain and Diego Garcia’s Algerian Peninsula. An important feature of these exercises is that the number of countries participating in them is increasing steadily and the number of observers is also increasing in addition to the countries participating in the exercises regularly.

Continuing naval exercises will provide an excellent platform to combine consensus thinking and global efforts to achieve maritime peace and stability. These exercises will be helpful in highlighting the true identity of Pakistan there. The full participation of international forces in these exercises is also a testament to the fact that modern, talented and powerful countries of the world consider the efforts of Pakistan Navy for peace in the region to be fruitful and for maritime peace and stability. The Pakistan Navy is ready to fully support these efforts.
