Quetta Gladiators determined to become the champion in HBL PSL edition 2021.
Quetta Gladiators have the distinction of being the most successful team in the history of HBL PSL. They were the runner-up in the first two editions of the event, winning the title in 2019, but the Quetta Gladiators failed to reach the playoffs in the 2020 edition.
- Two thousand and twenty: fifth position
- Two thousand and nineteen: Champion
- Two Eighteen: Fourth Position (Defeat in Element 1)
- Two thousand and seventeen: Runner-up
- Two thousand and sixteen: Runner-up
This was the first time that Quetta Gladiators fans, coaches and players were disappointed. However, in the 2021 edition starting from February 20, the services of Quetta Gladiators head coach Moin Khan and captain Sarfraz Ahmed are present. Moin Khan not only understands T20 cricket well, but he is also an expert in transferring his useful experience to the players. He is also very good at carrying out his plans.
Sarfraz Ahmed has established himself as the best captain in the T20 cricket format. As captain, he has won 29 of 37 matches so far.
In the event starting on February 20, the most important weapon of Quetta Gladiators will be “Universe Boss”, i.e. Chris Gayle. He is available to the franchise for some matches. He has his own style in T20 cricket, and is known to have set all the records in T20 cricket that any batsman would want. These include:
- Record for most runs scored: 13584
- Record for most centuries: 22
- Record for most half centuries: 85
- Highest individual score in T20 cricket: 175 not out
- Record for most sixes: 1001
- Most sixes in a match: 18
These figures prove that he is the best and most experienced player in T20 cricket. Chris Gayle could be an effective partner for English opener Tom Banton as Banton is also known for scoring fast runs early in the innings and has recently shown his full potential in the England, Australia and T20 leagues.
South Africa’s Faf du Plessis, who represented Peshawar Zalmi in the last edition of the league, has been included in the Quetta Gladiators squad this time as Chris Gayle’s core player. Chris Gayle will not be available to Quetta Gladiators for some time due to international engagements.
Moin Khan’s son, Azam Khan is also an ideal cricketer for Quetta Gladiators. He performs well, both in front of, and behind the wickets.
Other notable players are South Africa’s Cameron Delport and Australia’s Ben Cutting. Ben Cutting proved that he has the ability to turn the tide of a match at any time by doing great power hitting in the last edition.
Speaking of all-rounders, Pakistan’s Muhammad Nawaz and Anwar Ali are second to none. Concerning these players, it can be said with confidence that Quetta has good firepower for the last overs. In addition, captain Sarfraz Ahmed also has the potential to improve the strike rate.
In addition to these experienced players, there is also a young player Saim Ayub in the Quetta squad. He has proved his mettle by batting fast in U-16 and U-19. Left-arm spinner Arash Khan is also capable of bowling.
In the field of fast bowling, Mohammad Hasnain had taken 15 wickets in the last edition. This time they will have the opportunity to learn from an experienced fast bowler like Dale Steyn. Apart from them, Sohail Khan, Naseem Shah and Usman Shinwari are also part of the squad.
Spin bowling all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz will be joined by Afghanistan’s Qais Ahmed and recently debuted league spinner Zahid Mahmood.
Squad: Sarfraz Ahmed (captain), Ben Cutting, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Nawaz, Azam Khan, Naseem Shah, Zahid Mahmood, Anwar Ali, Chris Gayle, Faf du Plessis (Chris Gayle’s replacement), Tom Banton, Usman Shinwari, Cameron Delport, Qais Ahmed, Abdul Nasser, Saim Ayub, Arash Ali Khan, Dale Steyn and Usman Shinwari.
