Lahore, 16th May: The danger of Cyclone Tauktae hitting the Pakistani coast on May 17 has been averted.
Director Meteorological Department Sardar Sarfraz said that Cyclone Tauktae is at a distance and the storm will pass away from the coast of Pakistan.
According to the Meteorological Department, the typhoon is located at a distance of 1220 km from the south and southeast of Karachi.
The wind speed in the center of the storm is 100 to 120 km per hour. The wind speed in Karachi has also increased to 140 kmph. There is a possibility of rains in Thatta, Badin, Thar, Mirpur Khas, Umerkot and Sanghar while the wind speed is likely to be 60 to 80 kmph.
Earlier, it was said that the meteorological department said that the typhoon was moving at a speed of 18 kmph towards the northwest i.e Indian Gujarat. The typhoon is 1310 kms southeast of Karachi.
According to the Meteorological Department, the storm is likely to intensify in the next 18 to 24 hours and turn into a severe hurricane, while the hurricane could reach the coast of Indian Gujarat on the afternoon or evening of May 18.
According to the Meteorological Department, the risk of heavy rainfall in Karachi has been reduced due to the removal of the storm.
However, due to hot winds, the temperature will remain severe. Due to the change of weather in Kati Bandar and the coastal strip, dust storms along with strong winds in Thatta and surrounding areas have added to the hardships of the people.
A red alert has been issued in Hyderabad and fishermen have been barred from entering the deep sea for three days. Fishing activities in Gwadar are also banned till May 20.
