Lahore, 25th May: Pakistan Foreign Office said that the United States has not been allowed any access to land or air space in Pakistan.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) has denied the news of allowing the US troops to occupy military or airbase in the country. It clearly said that the news is baseless and irresponsible and should be avoided.

FO spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudri said in a statement late Monday night that there is no US military or airbase in Pakistan nor was any such proposal intended.

Zahid Hafeez also announced the same on his official Twitter account on May 24:

Chaudhri added, “Since 2001, Pakistan and America have a framework of cooperation in terms of Air Lines of Communication (ALOC) and Ground Lines of Communication (GLOC) in place. No new agreement has been made in this regard.”

It is to be noted that the statement by the Foreign Office comes after the announcement made by a Pentagon official that Pakistan had allowed the US military to use its land and air space to help maintain a presence in Afghanistan.

US Deputy Secretary of Defense for Indo-Pacific Affairs David F. Helvey in a briefing to the US Armed Services Committee last week told that America would continue its talks with Pakistan because it has a major role to play in restoring peace in Afghanistan.
