Lahore, 8th August: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) released Pakistani journalists Amir Mir and Imran Shafqat after the two submitted a personal bond.
According to details, the FIA cybercrime wing arrested the two journalists Amir Mir and Imran Shafqat in two separate operations on Saturday, however, it released them on the same day after the two submitted a surety bond with the agency.
Meanwhile, a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the two journalists.

Sources within the FIA told Geo News that both the journalists had presented written responses to the charges against them.
As per details, Amir Mir, in his written statement denied all allegations leveled against him. He said that his struggles as a journalist are meant to defend the interests of Pakistan.
Mir claimed in his statement, “The allegation of working against the interest of Pakistan is baseless.”

Similarly, Imran Shafqat also denied the allegations leveled against him and termed them ‘false and baseless.’
On the other hand, FIA officials have reported that the two journalists were charged under Sections 469 (forgery for purpose of harming reputation), 500 (punishment for defamation), 505 (statements conducing to public mischief), and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The agency claimed that the journalists have allegedly defamed respected judges, Pakistan Army and have disrespected women, hence they are booked under those charges.

Meanwhile, a spokesman from the FIA said that the journalists run two channels on YouTube that broadcast messages and programs aimed at weakening the nation’s trust in state institutions.
He further informed that investigations are still underway against Amir Mir and Imran Shafqat, although they have been released on bail. He added that FIA will submit a case challan after collecting more evidence against them.
It is to be noted that FIA took Amir Mir and Imran Shafqat into custody early Saturday morning, however, at that time it was not clear what they had been charged with.
