Bird hit cases on the rise, Wake Up CAA!!

Bird hits have caused numerous accidents resulting in aircraft damage and human casualties. The bird hits should not be taken lightly as it may end up into a disaster or a nightmare for the pilots, travelers as well as for any airline.

According to Baaghi TV’s report, the number of bird hits in different airports of the country has been steadily increasing in the recent years. As per the reports, a total of 57 bird hit incidents have been reported in the last nine months from January to September 2021.

According to the details, 57 Pakistan International Aircrafts have been hit in various airports of the country. Baaghi TV has learnt that 21 bird hit incidents have occurred at the Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore and 13 incidents have been reported at New Islamabad Airport.

Moreover, 8 bird hit cases were reported in Karachi, 6 in Peshawar, 4 in Sukkur, 3 in Gilgit and 1 each in Multan and Quetta. Reports suggest that the PIA aircrafts involved in these incidents include ATR, Airbus A320 and Boeing 777 causing financial losses to the airline.

According to details, due to poor sanitation arrangements at various airports across the country, birds hovering on the dirt cause collisions with planes causing damage of millions. The highest number of bird strikes have been reported at the Lahore and Islamabad airports.

Moreover, the national flag carrier had to bear the additional cost of millions of rupees due to birds colliding with the aircraft. According to sources, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has not installed modern equipment to repel birds at any of the country’s airports. The PIA management had informed the CAA of its concern over these incidents.

It should be a wake-up call for the CAA as the incidents of bird strikes have been consistently increasing at the airports across the country. It has been learnt that since last year more than 34 PIA planes of were affected by bird strikes which caused millions of rupees loss to the already cash-starved national flag carrier.

In this regard, the CAA must ensure that there is none or minimum garbage around its airports, which is one of the primary reasons for the presence of birds.
