PIA plane hit by bird again, narrowly escapes crash

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight from Sharjah to Karachi narrowly escaped an accident, after several birds collided with the plane, damaging its wing.

According to the details, the number of bird strikes by planes at different airports of the country is continuously increasing. The PIA flight from Sharjah to Karachi suffered serious damage after several birds hit the front and wing of the aircraft near Jinnah International Airport.

One wing of the plane has been damaged which is currently being repaired by a team of engineers. The pilot, however, successfully made landing as no human injury was reported. Birds collided with the wing of the aircraft before landing, causing severe damage to the wing of the Airbus 320 aircraft. There were more than 100 passengers on board.

The plane was grounded due to a collision of birds, due to which the flight from Karachi to Lahore was canceled. During 24 hours, this was the second incident of bird hit with a PIA aircraft. Sources said that a total of more than 5 bird strikes have been reported at various airports in a week.

In 2019, more than 19 planes were affected by bird strikes which caused millions of rupees loss to the national flag carrier. As per the reports, a total of 71 bird hit cases were reported in the year 2019 however, 12 bird hit cases were reported from January 2020 to June 2020. The count doesn’t stop here yet, Baaghi TV has learnt from reliable sources that 10 cases have been reported only in the month of July, 2020.

According to details, due to poor sanitation arrangements at various airports across the country, birds hovering on the dirt cause collisions with planes causing damage of millions. The highest number of bird strikes have been reported at the Karachi and Lahore airports.

Moreover, the national flag carrier had to bear the additional cost of millions of rupees due to birds colliding with the aircraft. According to sources, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has not installed modern equipment to repel birds at any of the country’s airports. The PIA management had informed the CAA of its concern over the bird strikes.

It should be a wake-up call for the CAA as the incidents of bird strikes have been consistently increasing at the airports across the country. It has been learnt that since last year more than 34 PIA planes of were affected by bird strikes which caused millions of rupees loss to the already cash-starved national flag carrier.

In this regard, the CAA must ensure that there is none or minimum garbage around its airports, which is one of the primary reasons for the presence of birds.
