Cryptocurrency was raised in the National Assembly (NA) by Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan’s Member Punjab Assembly (MPA), Osama Qadri.
Sources have revealed, the National Assembly session was chaired by Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri, in which an MQM member presented a notice drawing attention to the cryptocurrency.
Osama Qadri said:
“Cryptocurrency needs to be regulated in Pakistan and the government should take steps in this regard.”

Responding to the attention-grabbing notice, Minister of State, Ali Muhammad Khan, claimed:
“Cryptocurrency is a new technology, State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) is working in this regard, we cannot close the door for new technology. It needs to be considered in detail as it is opening up new struggles in the world. We cannot take a new risk in the case of cryptocurrency. The matter has gone to the courts. The country has to move towards corrupt currency, SBP is cautious on the issue of new currency and wished that progress be made in this matter carefully.”

He suggested that if the members of the National Assembly should discuss the issue of cryptocurrency, they should discuss it in the committee meeting. The Deputy Speaker referred the matter of crypto currency to the relevant standing committee and adjourned the meeting till 4:00 pm tomorrow Pakistan Standard Time (PKT).
