Jan 25, 2022: According to a report by Geo News, investigative flaws were revealed in the Noor Muqaddam murder case, as it was pointed out during the trial that no CCTV recordings and eyewitness statements were included in the investigation.
It was revealed that no neighbor’s or guard’s statements were recorded, while close-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage was not included in the investigation. The investigating officer told the court that no eyewitness came forward while no blood stains were found on the pants of accused Zahir Jaffer. The investigating officer said that Zahir Jaffer was included in the investigation only because he was at home.
Police had told the court in the preliminary investigation that accused Zahir Jaffer had confessed to killing Noor Muqaddam and fingerprints and DNA report had also placed Jaffar at the scene of the murder. Last week, doctors at Adiala Jail declared Zahir Jaffer, the main accused in the Nurqadam murder case, mentally and physically fit for trial.
Reports submitted by doctors before Additional Sessions Judge Ata Rabbani said that Jaffer had to undergo various medical procedures and a psychiatrist examined his mental health which he said was stable.
Noor Muqaddam, a 27-year-old woman, and daughter of Pakistan’s ex ambassador to South Korea, was murdered on July 20 within the limits of the Kohsar police station in Islamabad’s F-7 area and prime suspect Zahir, was formally charged for the crime by an Islamabad court in October 2021. Besides him, two of the family’s employees — Jamil and Jan Mohammad — were also indicted.
