KARACHI: Renowned Pakistani singer Ali Noor has been accused of sexual harassment by journalist Ayesha Binte Rashid. On Friday, Ayesha took to Instagram to share screenshots of a conversation she had with Noor in which she called out the singer for having ‘predatory behaviour’ and ‘sexual harassment’.

The screenshots also featured Noor’s alleged response to Ayesha’s allegations in which he admits of being her ‘gunehgar’ (sinner) and tells her he hates himself. Noor apparently reached out to Rashid from his wife’s phone number after getting blocked by the journalist on WhatsApp. He also thanked her for the “wake-up call”, urging her to “forgive herself, first” and then “others around” her.

When reached out for a statement, the singer refused to comment on the matter albeit insisting that the “complete” version of the conversation should be shared publicly. Both Ayesha and Noor, shared their conversations with an online newspaper “The Express Tribune” without independently verifying their authenticity.

From the screenshots shared by Ayesha, some of which have been transcibed of context, she can be seen telling Noor that she is only messaging him after long deliberation.

“You manipulated me and what happened in the back of my car while driving to the airport was sexual harassment. You are a sexual harasser and a predator,” she wrote in her WhatsApp message to Ali Noor. Ayesha went on to say that she does not wish to come forward publicly with the accusations because she has too much respect for Noor’s brother, Ali Hamza and drummer Kami Paul, who has been associated with the band Noori.

Later, Ali Noor claimed that Ayesha has not put forward the full picture of their conversation and deleted the messages she sent him earlier. Thereafter, a series of Instagram stories was posted on Noor’s Instagram account in which he was apologizing and regretting his actions. He also posted a note on Instagram stating that he was no predator and that he is trying to redeem himself.

Ayesha refused to make any further comments on the story.
