COAS visit to LUMS I Reality exposed by Afeefa Rao

LAHORE: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, on the 14th of March, visited Lahore University of Management and Sciences (LUMS). On his arrival, the Chief was welcomed by LUMS Vice Chancellor Dr. Arshad Ahmad Malik and several other faculty members.
In her YouTube show ’25th Hour’, Afeefa Rao and Faisal Rao discussed about COAS’s visit to LUMS and what really happned in a 7-hour long interactive session between students and General Qamar Javed Bajwa. “There are a lot of rumors circulating around the visit of COAS to LUMS and many of them aren’t true,” said Faisal Rao.
“People have been raising questions about the area of Defence Housing Authority (DHA), where LUMS is located, going into lockdown upon the arrival of the COAS. This is not true at all. Students and faculty members were attending and taking classes as usual and no roads were blocked,” confirmed Faisal Rao.

There have also been speculations regarding the policy of no-entry of outsiders. To say the least, every educational institute follows it and it was not unconventional for LUMS to follow it as well. There are certain parameters of security that need to be respected for the sake of security of the university,” Faisal Rao said in his show.
“It was a positive interaction between the students where they were given full liberty of freedom of expression and there were no restrictions on asking questions,” he said. Afeefa Rao also recalled the time when Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also paid a visit to LUMS but students were not allowed to ask questions.
It is true that neither students nor members of the military were allowed to bring their discussion on the social media. But the fact that LUMS was ‘militarized’ is anything but true. Students were not ‘brainwashed’ into a militarized mindset, he remarked.
LUMS increases its fee from this Semester
LUMS is a reputable institute of Pakistan, a place that produces quality professional personnels who have contributed greatly to the society. Such interactive sessions should be encouraged in all educational institutions across Pakistan so the military machinery can become more transparent to the youth.
