Finland crowned ‘happiest’ country fifth year in a row

Geneva: Finland won the title of the ‘happiest’ country in the world for the fifth time in a row, while Pakistan took the lead over India.
According to an international news agency, the World Happiness Report 2022 released by the United Nations (UN) ranked the happiest and most unhappy countries with Finland ranking first among the happiest and most satisfied countries, while Afghanistan ranked last.

Five years ago, in 2018, Finland was declared the happiest country and nation for the first time. Finland’s forests, high quality of public services, complete trust in the authorities, transparency, and extremely low rates of crime and inequality are characterized as the factors behind the global ranking.
Similarly, Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland, and the Netherlands are ranked second to fifth, respectively. This year, Serbia, Bulgaria, and Romania have also managed to raise a few places in the ranking. However, due to the economic downturn, Lebanon came one place ahead of Afghanistan in the list of the happiest countries, at 145.

Meanwhile, powerful world powers have not even managed to make it to the top ten of this list. According to the World Happiness Report 2022, Australia ranks 12th, Germany 14th, Canada 15th, the United States 16th, the United Kingdom 17th, and France 20th.
Pakistan has ranked 103rd in the list, while India lags far behind at the 136th position. In this way, Pakistan surpassed India among the happiest countries. Moreover, Bangladesh ranks 99th among other Asian countries.

Afghanistan has been listed at the bottom of the list including 146 countries. It should be noted that since the Taliban government came into power in Afghanistan, the public has been suffering from severe financial difficulties. While war-torn Lebanon is also one place above Afghanistan.
