Pakistan has called for strengthening the existing dialogue frameworks at bilateral, regional and global levels to make them active and effective.
The call was made by Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza while presenting Pakistan’s principled stance at the 22nd Shangri-La security Dialogue 2025 held in Singapore.
Emphasizing that prevention of conflict is better than post-crisis efforts, the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee said Pakistan wants a global system based on sovereignty and restraint.
He said negotiations are indispensable for security of South Asia.
Pointing to recent Indo-Pak tensions, he said India’s use of water as a weapon of war is a clear violation of international law.
General Sahir Shamshad Mirza stated Pakistan National Security Committee’s categorical position that any attempt to block or divert Pakistan’s waters will be considered an act of war.
Terming Kashmir dispute the root cause of tension between Pakistan and India, the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee said resolution of the dispute in accordance with the UN resolutions is inevitable for peace in south Asia.
He said Pakistan is desirous of lasting peace with India, based on dignity, equality and mutual respect.
General Sahir Shamshad Mirza said Pakistan has been consistently demanding the restoration of a formal dialogue system from India and the international community.
He said the situation since the Pahalgam incident is endangering development of the region.
General Sahir Shamshad Mirza said lack of an effective crisis management system prevents world powers from intervening timely.
He said durable crisis management requires foundation of mutual restraint, recognition of red lines and equilibrium.
