Darren Sammy to get Nishan-e-Pakistan & Honorary Citizenship

Government of Pakistan (GoP) has announced to give Pakistan’s highest civil award and honorary citizenship to West Indian cricketer Darren Sammy who is also the captain of Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League 2020.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced this via Twitter which further stated that President Dr. Arif Alvi will give the award to Darren Sammy at the Pakistan Day ceremony in Islamabad on March 23.

Javed Afridi, owner of the cricket franchise Peshawar Zalmi, wrote on his Twitter account that in the history of Pakistan cricket, the honor has come in the part of Peshawar Zalmi that his captain was awarded the highest civilian award by the Government of Pakistan.

Javed Afridi further said that giving Darren Sammy the highest civilian award in Pakistan is a recognition of his services in returning to international cricket in country.

Peshawar Zalmi has also released a video of Darren Sammy’s visit to the tomb of Quaid-e-Azam, in which Darren Sammy says he has adopted the principles, unity, faith and discipline of this great leader in his life and he will try to convey this message not only to the Zalmi team but to the Pakistani nation and the entire world.

It is to be remembered that GoP has also announced to present Sitara-e-Imtiaz to Javed Afridi, owner of the cricket franchise Peshawar Zalmi, for his efforts and services for the revival of cricket in the country.
