Government to ensure overseas Pakistanis receive pension: SAPM Bukhari

Pakistan (7th Mar, 2020): Special Assistant to the Prime Ministers (SAPM) on Overseas Pakistani, Sayed Zulfikar Abbas Bukhari, claims government is working out ways to ensure overseas Pakistanis may receive pension. 

According to a the Khaleej Times, SAPM, Sayed Zulfikar Abbas Bukhari has stated that the government of Pakistan is working out way to ensure overseas Pakistani may be able to receive pension in the future.

He stated that the government is currently working on means to materialize a plan to include overseas Pakistanis in the Employees’ Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) pension scheme.

In conversation with the Standing Committee of the National Assembly on Overseas Pakistani and Human Resource Development, the Special Advisor to the Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis, Sayed Zulfikar Abbas Bukhari stated, that this will be a first for the government to be “launching a pension scheme for Pakistani expats under the EOBI pension fund”.

Reportedly, there are plans to include the informal labour in the country as well.

Moreover, while discussing on the government’s social security initiatives for the Pakistani expats, he stated that this will be a “major breakthrough” as it will be inclusive of “domestic labourers, brick kiln workers, freelance journalists and others”, respectively.
