Islamabad, 28th March: World Cup Squash champion Jahangir Khan’s uncle Jan Azam Khan, who was also one of the greatest squash players, died from battling with the Coronavirus today.

Jan Azam Khan, who won the British Open titles four times in a row from 1959 to 1962, was diagnosed with the Coronavirus last week and left the family today at the age of 95. His son confirmed his death.

Azam Khan emigrated to the UK in the 60s and belonged to the squash family who for many years have been victorious in Pakistan. His elder brother Hashim Khan in 1951 was the first Pakistani athlete to win the British Open and took up the responsibility of raising his younger brother, Azam, 11 years after his father’s death.

He was honored to be the British Open Champion for three more consecutive years, though he did not play squash again in 1963 due to an injury. And the most memorable moment of his career was when in 1960 he defeated his older brother Hashim Khan 1-9, 0-9 and 0-9 after a one-sided contest.

May Allah bless the departed soul.
