Islamabad July 10 (Online Int’l): Senate Committee on Delegated Legislation in its meeting discussed the Federal Board of Revenue Act, 2017 with particular reference to Section 6 of the Act regarding the creation of a Policy Board.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Senator Kauda Babar at the Parliament House on Friday and was attended among others by Senators Mian Ateeq Shaikh, Dr. Asad Ashraf, Kalsoom Parveen, and Rubina Khalid.

The officials from the FBR briefed the committee about the policy board: its values, missions, policies and guidelines. The committee stressed upon the need for holding meetings of the policy board more frequently as the act also provides a time frame of 3 months in which one meeting shall be held.

The Committee Chairman Kauda Babar who was nominated a member of the board had earlier resigned from the board because no meetings were held despite repeated requisitions and reminders. The committee members endorsed that these times call for more frequent meetings of the board especially in the wake of the effects of COVID-19 on the economy and the budget.

The committee also recommended that the rules of the policy board should be drafted at the earliest and be brought back for review.
