Lahore, 21st July 2020: Senior journalist and TV host, Matiullah Jan, reportedly went missing from Islamabad, his family confirmed.

His wife confirmed that Matiullah Jan had come to drop her off at school in Sector G-6 of the capital on Tuesday morning but nothing has been known about him since then.

After the disappearance of Matiullah Jan, the local police said that a report of the disappearance has been lodged in Aabpara police station while they are investigating the case of Matiullah Jan’s disappearance.

On the other hand, the video of Matiullah Jan’s abduction has also come to light. Senior journalist and anchorperson Hamid Mir has shared the video on the social networking website Twitter.

A police officer stationed at Aabpara police station told the British News Agency that the police had obtained CCTV footage of the incident that happened to the journalist Matiullah Jan, but the faces were not yet clear.

Footage from CCTV cameras at the school showed more than half a dozen people in three vehicles forcing Matiullah into a car, while Matiullah Jan tossed his phone inside the school. His mobile was caught later by a person inside the school.

Some policemen were seen in the video who were apparently wearing anti-terrorism force uniforms. However, the police officer said that based on the uniforms, it is not possible to accurately assess the location of the police station.

A tweet has been made from the Twitter account of journalist Matiullah Jan in which his son reported his father missing. Matiullah Jan’s son tweeted that my father had been abducted from Islamabad. He demanded the immediate recovery of his father and the arrest of those responsible.

Journalists on Twitter have demanded the recovery of Matiullah Jan. Political leaders have also protested over his disappearance. PPP Senator Sehar Kamran tweeted that Matiullah Jan has been kidnapped.

Saleem Safi tweeted as a reply to Matiullah Jan’s son’s tweet, “Just think what will happen to him and the rest of Mati’s family at this time? Those who have picked him up should remember the law of punishment.”

A petition has been filed in the Islamabad High Court for the recovery of missing journalist Matiullah Jan. The petition was filed by Shahid Akbar Abbasi, brother of Matiullah Jan.

On the other hand, Amnesty International has demanded that the authorities find Matiullah Jan as soon as possible. Amnesty International says that Matiullah Jan has faced attacks and harassment in the past because of his journalism.

It should be noted that the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has also demanded immediate recovery of Matiullah Jan.
