The Mahira Khan-Firdaus Jamal fiasco took an interesting turn when producer Momina Duraid announced to cancel Firdaus Jamal’s projects with her production house and ban him as a response to his opinion about Mahira Khan. However her decision earned her a huge backlash and many including Feroze Khan and Shaan Shahid, slammed her for this dictatorial attitude. Feroze Khan in his tweet dared her to ban everyone who shares an opinion against any other human being and questioned her overweening sense of entitlement over the right to get someone’s bread and butter cancelled.

Actor and choreographer Osman Khalid Butt joined in, by sharing on his social media a long note stating that such authoritarianism might set a dangerous precedent. With the suggestion to ensure a constructive criticism, he maintained that while problematic behavior should be challenged, dealing it with another wrong is not the best solution.

Osman Khalid Butt aka Obi, who has successfully proved his talent through theatre, Youtube vlogs, TV serials and Lollywood, lamented the lack of unity in the showbiz fraternity, where people instead of showing respect and compassion for each other, display the same kind of intolerance that comes from trolls on social media.

He further seconded Mahira Khan’s opinion to respond to harsh and derogatory criticism through fighting the mindset and not the people; and reiterated that while one is free to not work with another person, using one’s position to take away their right to be a part of the industry is troublesome.

It is important to note that Butt was among the first ones to protest over Firdaus Jamal’s rude criticism of Mahira Khan.
