LONDON: Adele made a return to live performance and won three prizes in London on Tuesday, weeks after she canceled a much-hyped string of shows in Las Vegas. The north London-born singer/songwriter was named ‘Artist of the Year’ at the United Kingdom’s (UK) leading music awards.
In addition to that, Adele also won the ‘Album of the Year’ prize for ’30’ and won ‘Song of the Year’ for ‘Easy on Me’. The famous diva dedicated her award for ’30’ to her son Angelo and her ex-husband Simon Konecki. ’30’ was forged from the breakup of her marriage.
“This album was all our journey, not just mine”, the singer stated. “I am proud of myself for sticking to my guns and putting an album out that was something about so personal to me because not many people do stuff like that,” she added.
Adele delighted the home-town audience at London’s O2 Arena, sitting on a piano, dressed in a golden gown, singing ‘I Drink Wine’. It was her first performance since she canceled on a Ceasar’s Palace residency at the last minute in January, being mindful of delivery days and corona virus illness in her crew members.
This year’s prize ceremony included energetic performances by two of the UK’s most exciting rap artists, genre-bending singer, Little Simz and powerful wordsmith Dave.
Both rappers were also winners. Little Sims won for ‘Best New Artist’ while Dave stayed atop the list for ‘Best Hip-Hop or Grime Act’. He paid tribute to artists “who have suffered for years and years and years and broke the stereotypes in the industry”.
The Brit Award show is also one of the few events not to have been canceled in the past two years because of the pandemic. The 2020 rize show took place weeks before UK went into lockdown.
