IOSA to conduct complete audit of PIA for aviation safety

The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA) has offered assistance to Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and Pakistan Air Line Pilots’ Association (PALPA) to address safety and technical issues.

According to the details, the ALPA has offered support to PIA and PALPA regarding safety issues that are a major reason for restrictions on the national carrier’s operations in the European Union (EU) and the United States (US).

In a letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan, ALPA President Captain Joseph G DePete extended support to the Prime Minister, Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and Pakistani airlines to restore the good name of Pakistan within the aviation industry.

“I have a personal interest in supporting you due to the relationships that I have developed within Pakistan including with you, Air Marshal Arshad Malik at Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), and Captain Chaudhary Salman at PALPA,” the letter said quoting President DePete.

He further stated that that ALPA is referred to in North America as “conscience of the industry” with over 85 years of experience in improving aviation safety.

“We have seen tremendous success in working with Civil Aviation Authorities and airlines in the development of Safety Management Systems (SMS) and implementation of non-punitive safety reporting systems,” he added.

It is to be noted that the European Union Air Safety Agency (EASA) has taken action against the CAA for ignoring air safety standards and has sought a follow-up plan from the regulatory body. The EASA has written to the Director General (DG) CAA, Hassan Nasir Jamy, seeking clarifications regarding flight standards, regulation, air verification and licensing.

On June 30, the EASA suspended PIA’s air operations permit for European countries for six months due to the fake license scandal.
