Friday, July 3rd: According to the report of Baaghi TV, the appointment of Additional Chief Secretary and Additional IG in the South Punjab Secretariat has been challenged in the Lahore High Court.
Lawyers Foundation for Justice has filed a constitutional petition in the Lahore High Court through Ahmed Abdullah Dogar Advocate. The federal government, Governor Punjab, Chief Secretary Punjab and others have been made parties in the petition.
The petitioner said that the Punjab government has appointed Zahid Akhtar Zaman as Additional Chief Secretary and Inam Ghani as Additional IG in the South Punjab Secretariat. The government has not yet determined the territorial boundaries for the South Punjab Secretariat.
The petition further said that the amendment bill could be sent to the President only after approval by a two-thirds majority from the provincial assembly. The notification of appointment of Additional Chief Secretary and Additional IG should be declared null and void as unconstitutional and implementation of the notification should be stopped till the final decision of the petition.
It may be recalled that Additional Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman and Additional Inspector General of Police Inam Ghani, who have been posted for the South Punjab Secretariat, had a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar two days ago.
Chief Secretary Jawad Rafique Malik, Inspector General of Police Shoaib Dastgir, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Iftikhar Saho and Secretary to the Chief Minister Coordination Javed Akhtar were also present on the occasion.
Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has expressed good wishes for the new Additional Chief Secretary South and Additional Inspector General of Police South. Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar said that the PTI government has appointed officers on merit for the establishment of South Punjab Secretariat. The establishment of South Punjab Secretariat will bring relief to the people of the area. With the establishment of South Punjab Secretariat, the promise made to the people has been fulfilled.
