According to reports, behind-the-scenes facts have come to light regarding the immediate replacement of Additional Deputy Commissioner General.

According to sources, former ADCG Omar Liaqat Rhandwa was removed from his post for irregularities in the issuance of arms licenses. During this period, hundreds of illegal and unlicensed bore weapons licenses were issued without certification.

According to sources, the ADCG had made a formal deal with an arms dealer in Rawalpindi for which more than 20 arms licenses were issued daily without any confirmation. A formal deal was also struck with an Islamabad arms dealer to issue an arms license.

Most of the licenses issued to these dealers were of prohibited bore and their residential address and the relevant police station were not verified and the issuance of prohibited and non-prohibited bore licenses continued even under Covid-19.

The ADCG was immediately removed after senior officials were notified of the irregularities. For a week, however, he did not relinquish his post due to close ties with the Interior Ministry. Yesterday, the Establishment Division had issued instructions to him to resign immediately.
