Arshad Nadeem, Pakistan’s last medal hope at the Tokyo Olympics, will compete in the javelin throw final soon.
Twelve athletes compete in Julian Tharoor’s final at the Tokyo Olympics, with Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem finishing ninth.
He is the first Pakistani athlete to reach the final of the Julian Tharoor tournament, while no Pakistani Olympic competitor has ever reached the final.
Nadeem, a 24-year-old Mian Channu native, qualified for the Olympics by performing well at the South Asian Games.
He made an impression in the Olympic group stage when he first on the field. He qualified for the final by throwing 85.16 metres, which placed him first in his group and third overall in the qualifiers.
Now their sights are set on the final on Saturday, which will feature the top 12 Julian throwers.
All 12 competitors will hurl spears three times in the first round, after which the bottom four athletes will be eliminated from the medal race and the top eight will compete three times more.
Arshad Nadeem, the 2018 Asian Games bronze medallist and the 2019 South Asian Games gold champion, is ranked ninth in the players’ order.After three rounds of elimination, the athletes’ order will be determined by their position.
He had the best throw of 86.38 this season, and just three players in the top 12 of the Tokyo Olympics have recorded a better throw so far this season. Andrian Mardier 86.66, Johannes Waiter 96.29, Neeraj Chopra 88.07, and Johannes Waiter 96.29.
