Asad Umar said the first 10 million vaccinations took 113 days, adding that “the second 28 days and the third only 16 days”. In addition, there was a new “record” number of vaccinations on all six days of the week.
A total of five million jobs were administered throughout the week. Asad Umar said a new record was set on Saturday, with 934,000 vaccinations being given across the country.
An earlier statement from the minister highlighted the growing spread of the virus, especially in the form of deltas. Currently, the country’s positive rate is 8.82%.
Asad Umar stressed the importance of vaccinating against the virus instead of closing cities to control the epidemic. “As the numbers dwindle, we begin to think that the virus is gone. However, our actions are directly linked to the spread of the virus.”
Due to the increase in Covid19 cases in Sindh, the province has gone into lockdown till Saturday. The NCOC said that instructions have been issued to the federal government offices in Sindh to work with minimum number of workers while ensuring SOPs.
Meanwhile, the Sindh government and the federal government disagreed on how to curb the fourth wave of the Covid 19 delta variant.
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Sindh government spokesman Murtaza Wahab responded to calls from Federal Ministers Fawad Chaudhry and Asad Umar, as well as Sindh Governor Imran Ismail, to reconsider the lockdown decision.
