Beijing can Conduct 1 Million Corona Tests in a Day
Beijing: According to reports, Chinese officials have said that Beijing can conduct 1 million corona tests a day and are actively testing to control the pandemic in the city.
According to news agency Reuters, a government official said that Beijing has the ability to conduct wide-scale testing. We should keep in mind that a week ago there was a confirmed reemergence of the virus in a vegetable market and since then officials have embarked on an aggressive testing campaign of 20 million residents of the city.
There is an increase in corona cases in Beijing and compared to February the number of cases daily is also greater. According to reports, initially the focus of testing had been the area of the Xinfadi market and its surrounding areas but now the circle has been expanded to other areas of the city.
The city administration has also started testing people who deliver vegetables and groceries. Spokesperson of the Beijing Municipal Health Commission, Gao Xiaojun, has said that we have doubled the testing ever since the new wave has arrived, and 124 different institutions are conducting more than 230,000 tests daily. He said that samples of several people are tested in one tube, under which 1 million tests can be conducted daily.
Previously Chinese officials had conducted mass scale testing in Wuhan last month where a fear of a second wave had been expressed.
Gao Xiaojun said that provinces including Hubei and Liaoning have sent 200 people to Beijing to increase laboratory staff and hence testing capability.
The corona virus had appeared in Chinese city Wuhan last December after which the government had imposed a strict lockdown and there was a restriction on leaving homes. China overcame the spread of the virus through strict closures and effective measures. However, it wreaked havoc on many countries all over the world.
America is the worst affected country so far where there are 2,332,056 cases whereas 122,020 have lost their lives to the virus.
Brazil has 1,070,139 cases and 50,058 lost their lives, after which comes Russia with 584,680 cases and 8001 deaths.
The worldwide tally of corona cases right now is 8,955,132, whereas 464,484 patients have died.
