Lahore, 25th May: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has issued an apology for his past remarks about Islam.

According to reports from Reuters, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson issued a qualified apology on Tuesday for the offense which was caused by his previous remarks about Islam and Muslims.

Johnson spoke during the critical report commissioned by the ruling Conservative Party which questioned him on his handling of discrimination and complaints of Islamophobia.

Professor Swaran Singh conducted the report independently, who has served as a Commissioner for the Equality and Human Rights Commission.

The report pointed out several incidences where Johnson showed discrimination, including the 2018 newspaper column, where the premier referred to Muslim women wearing Burqa as ‘going around looking like letter boxes’ and said that they looked like robbers.

Johnson defended the article and said, “I do know that an offense was taken at things I said. People expect that a person in my position to be perfect but in journalism, one needs to use the language freely.”

He stated a sincere apology for the offense taken by his remarks.

Johnson added that now when he is a Prime Minister, he would not use the offending language that he should in his past.

Swaran Singh found that the Conservative Party had not been active enough to challenge the inequality, hence the complaint system needs revamping for those who breach the rules.

The reports in its conclusion stated that after the anti-Muslim sentiments displayed by the Conservative Party itself, the issue of misconduct remains within the Party.

Meanwhile, the Conservative Party is still considering the recommendations of the report.
