July 19, 2021: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong visited the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Rawalpindi on Sunday, according to a statement from Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Non Rong inquired about the Chinese nationals injured in the incident. Nine Chinese nationals and four Pakistani nationals were killed and more than two dozen others were injured last week on Wednesday morning when a shuttle bus in which they were was traveling plunged into a deep ravine after a blast.
The bus was carrying Chinese and Pakistani workers to a tunnel site under construction at the Dasu Hydropower Project in the remote Kohistan District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.
During the visit on Sunday, the Foreign Minister inquired about the injured Chinese nationals and wished them a speedy recovery. Qureshi assured that the government would extend all possible assistance and medical facilities.
Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Nong Rong reaffirmed that China and Pakistan will continue to work closely together to meet any challenges. Earlier, Commandant CMH Major General Muhammad Aleem briefed the guests on providing medical aid to the injured.
On Saturday, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid assured Chinese Minister of Public Security Zhao Kezhi that the investigation into the Kohistan bus tragedy was underway at a high level on the instructions of Prime Minister Imran Khan and that it had entered the final phase.
The Foreign minister assured the Chinese minister that full and fool-proof security would be given to Chinese workers in Pakistan.
The two sides also agreed that no external element can spoil relations between the two countries. Earlier, Prime Minister Imran also spoke to his Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang and assured him that the government of Pakistan would spare no effort in conducting a full investigation into the incident.
“He [the Prime Minister] assured that no effort will be spared in conducting a full investigation into the incident,” read a statement from the Foreign Office.
