PM Imran khan congratulates Nepalese counterpart on winning confidence vote

July 19, 2021: PM Imran Khan on Monday congratulated Nepal’s new Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on winning a vote of confidence in parliament.

“I Congratulate H.E, Prime Minister of Nepal Sher Bahadur Deuba on receiving a vote of confidence from the House of Representatives,” the Prime Minister posted on his Twitter account.

PM Imran Khan expressed his desire to continue working with Nepal in areas of common interest. “Pakistan looks forward to deepening its cordial relations with Nepal and will continue to work with Nepal on issues of common interest,” he said.

Nepal’s new prime minister, Sher Bahadur Deuba, won a comfortable vote of confidence in the House of Representatives on Sunday, ensuring the continuation of the twice-dissolved lower house of parliament for the remainder of the term. Deuba, the 75-year-old chief of the Nepali Congress, who was appointed prime minister on July 12 under Article 76 (5) of the constitution following the Supreme Court’s intervention, garnered 165 votes in the 275-member lower house.

Deuba needed a total of 136 votes to win the confidence of parliament.

He has previously served as Prime Minister on four occasions. First from 1995 to 1997, then from 2001 to 2002, then from 2004 to 2005, and from 2017 to 2018.

Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated Deuba on his victory. He congratulated the Prime Minister and wished him a successful tenure. “I look forward to working with you to further strengthen our unique partnership in all areas,” Modi tweeted.
