India should not take any action that may escalate the situation. Chinese spokesperson
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Ladakh on Friday amid the ongoing border standoff with China in the eastern part of the union territory seems to have rattled Beijing. As PM Modi reviewed the security situation in Leh district’s Nimu and interacted with security forces personnel there, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that India should not take any action that may escalate the situation. Zhao Lijian, spokesperson at the Chinese Foreign Ministry, underlined that both the countries have been engaged in negotiations to lower the temperatures.“India and China are in communication and negotiations on lowering the temperatures through military and diplomatic channels. No party should engage in any action that may escalate the situation at this point,” Zhao told a press briefing. The Chinese reaction came after PM Modi landed in Leh early this morning, just days after a violent face-off between Indian and Chinese armies in eastern Ladakh left 20 Indian soldiers martyred and an unspecified number of troops on the other side dead.
