Sept 20, 2021: Chris Rock has contracted breakthrough COVID19. The 56-year-old comedian took to Twitter on Sunday to share the news.
Renowned Comedian and actor Chris Rock revealed Sunday that he has tested positive for Covid-19, and he is using the opportunity to urge others to get vaccinated against the virus.
“Hey guys I just found out I have COVID, trust me you don’t want this. Get vaccinated,” he wrote. Back in May, Rock revealed on”The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” that he had been vaccinated. “I’m vaccinated. I’m two shots Rock. That’s what they call me,” he joked at the time. “I got Johnson & Johnson.”
Rock’s tweet came at the end of a week in which another huge star, the rapper Nicki Minaj, caused controversy with a tweet casting doubt on the safety of vaccines for Covid-19.
Meanwhile, the Biden administration has sought out new ways to refute disinformation and reach young vaccine skeptics, earlier this year inviting the teen pop star Olivia Rodrigo to the White House to show her support for the shot.
The former “Saturday Night Live” cast member didn’t comment on his condition, and his representatives did not immediately return a request from CNN for further comment.
People who are fully vaccinated can still get Covid-19, these are called breakthrough cases, but being immunized still greatly the risk of hospitalization or death, health experts say.
In fact, people who are not vaccinated against Covid-19 were 11 times more likely to die of the disease and 10 times more likely to be hospitalized with the disease, a study published earlier this month by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows.
“Please have a swift and mild case and a full recovery. Hurry, we need you,” tweeted Larry Charles, the “Seinfield” producer and writer.
