Circular: PIA Flight Operations Department

In the wake of the tragic accident of PK 8303, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is still looking to come to terms with our trauma.

PIA pilots have a long tradition of professionalism in flight operations and our predecessors have left us an autonomous and self-sufficient system of training, standards, technical and safety guidelines.

The national airline stands at a crossroads today and we are faced with great challenges. The pilot body are at the apex of the airline and the rest of our colleagues look towards us to set standards.

Now, more than ever, it is imperative that we maintain strict discipline and adhere to the SOPs that have been formulated over the years. No matter what the outcome of the air crash investigation, we as professionals must start a process of introspection and soul searching and critically analyse ourselves in line with the greatest traditions of our airline.

PIA Flight PK 8303: Some unanswered questions

Maintaining discipline is the cornerstone of aviation safety. Discipline is:

  • Knowing that the rules must never be bent to get the job done.
  • Controlling the feeling that you have the ability and experience to do the job without following laid down SOPs.
  • Rejecting opportunities for shortcuts or to do things that appear to be “better” than the SOP.
  • Planning and preparing for problems before they arise by thinking ahead.

Massive Corruption by PIA management unveiled…

Discipline begins with such small but crucial acts such as being punctual, wearing proper uniform and interacting with the rest of our crew and colleagues from different departments in a manner that exudes professionalism and consideration.
