Committee formed by the PM for the supervision of social media rules
Lahore, 30th March: Prime Minister Imran Khan has formed a five-member committee on the recommendation of the Attorney General for the supervision of social media rules.
According to reports of Baaghi TV, the Attorney General has sent his recommendations on social media laws to Prime Minister Imran Khan. Human rights, freedom of speech will be taken into consideration in social media roles.
A committee headed by the Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari has been formed. Malika Bukhari, Ali Zafar, Secretary of the Ministry of IT are included in the committee. Chairman Telecommunication Authority is part of the committee too.
Earlier in January, the Attorney General assured the Islamabad High Court that the government was ready to review the social media rules.
The Attorney General told the court that these rules were not final and that stakeholders could make suggestions. He directed the PTA and stakeholders to submit report after consultation
Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Athar Minullah said that the court feels that the PTA did not consult the stakeholders, consultation should be done so that there is no ambiguity.
“We have been heard by the PTA before but our suggestions have not been included,” the lawyer said, adding that the court had asked him to trust the attorney general.
He said that we have full confidence in the General as in this court, the Attorney General has suggested that the petitioners are ready to hear the suggestions.
