Coronavirus in India: What is the Future of IPL this year?

Indian Premier League (IPL) Chairman Brijesh Patel has said that the league can be held in another country if the situation regarding coronavirus does not improve in the next two months.
As per the reports, Patel said, “Look, first we will try to hold it in India and if the situation does not allow it, we will definitely consider other options. We will look at the situation in the next two and a half months and then decide accordingly.”
The number of COVID-19 victims in India is growing rapidly and India is currently the fourth most affected country in the world in terms of patients. The cricket hubs like Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai are among the most affected areas in the country.
India came in fourth with the highest number of corona cases
It may be recalled that this event has been held outside the country twice before and then the reason behind it was national elections. The IPL tournament was scheduled to start on March 29, but has been halted due to the spread and lockdown of the coronavirus epidemic.
The IPL was repeatedly postponed due to a nationwide lockdown in India to control the coronavirus. However, Board of Cricket Control India (BCCI) is working on an emergency basis to host the event.
Is India about to fall apart?
BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal said that the board will have to bear a loss of over US $500 million if the IPL is not held. IPL isn’t just entertainment, it’s business, added the BCCI treasurer.
The importance of this league for the Indian economy can be gauged from the fact that the Indian economy gains more than US $11 billion through the IPL.
