Coronavirus situation extremely serious, major cities to shut down

Lahore, 21st April: Government has warned of more restrictions to be imposed in the country keeping in view the alarming situation of coronavirus cases in Pakistan.

Federal Minister for Planning Asad Umar warns the citizens of stricter curbs in the country after a serious situation of coronavirus pandemic arising lately.

The federal minister chaired an important session of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Wednesday.

He informed rather sadly that during the third wave of COVID-19, people are not following the SOPs in a proper way due to which a rise in infection cases have come to light.

Shared the information that the number of critical cases has crossed 4,500, Umar warned that if the situation remains the same then they would have to close down major cities in order to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Asad Umar said, “The pandemic situation which we reviewed at the NCOC today looked quite bad. We have taken several decisions to impose more curbs which would be announced on Friday.”

The minister also shared the statistics on his Twitter account.

NCOC has reported that the positivity rate in Karachi is 13% and in Hyderabad, it is 14%, while in Mardan it is 33% and 38% in Bahawalpur.

NCOC noted that 80% of the ventilators are in use in several cities, thus, health facilities in major cities are under pressure due to the increasing number of positive cases.

Baaghi TV reported earlier that the National Command & Operation Center (NCOC) has confirmed another 148 lives lost to COVID-19, which is the highest number of deaths per day, since June 2020.

The total number of deaths from COVID-19 is reported to be 16,453, while the total number of affected people is 83,000 so far. The NCOC has declared 26 districts as high-risk areas across Pakistan.
