Turkey, 18th April: The coronavirus has increased in Turkey, with the death of 126 more people, the total death toll has reached up to 1,769. With 4,353 more cases reported in Turkey in 24 hours, the total number of patients came to 78,546.
Turkey, like other countries, has locked down to prevent the spread of the virus, but Turkey’s lockdown rules are different from those of other countries. The lockdown imposes on the weekend and the children and the elderly are allowed to get out of their houses throughout the whole week.
According to a report published on CNN, Turkey has had a complete lockdown over the past weekend. A 48-hour curfew was imposed in 31 provinces, in which the Turkish government announced the curfew two-hours in advance, causing chaos in Turkey and people rushed to the shops to buy essential goods.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan appealed to the people to stay home and assured that Turkey’s government is capable of protecting and helping its people in the war against Corona. At the same time, they announced a lockdown for next weekend.
According to CNN reports, the Turkish Government is not restricting its citizens for total lockdown. The government has appealed to the citizens for social distancing and forbidden people under 20 and over 60 from going out of their homes, however, the rest can go out.
Lockdown eased, industries and businesses partially restored
Many experts say the ban on certain people in Turkey’s lockdown is the best. Experts say children and older people are at greater risk of developing COVID-19, so they need to stay home, others can move out when needed, but with precautions.
Dr. Mohammad Munir of the Virology Department at Lancaster University in the UK commented on the limited lockdown of Turkey that there was no harm for healthy people to go out of their homes.
According to Dr, Munir, 80% of Corona patients in the world are cured. If people will go out of their homes, they will feel good and their health will improve, lessening the pressure on the hospitals. However, older people need to look after themselves more in this situation.
