Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that Pak-China Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects had been facing difficulties due to coronavirus but now they are nearing completion at a stable pace.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony of Matiari to 600KV Lahore transmission line in Islamabad, Imran Khan said that he offers his congratulations to all those who had been working on the project since 2018 and had finally finished it.
He said that this transmission line has been laid on modern lines, decreasing losses to only 4%, unlike the previous 17%.
Prime Minister Imran Khan further said that a loss of several billion rupees is incurred when even a 1% loss occurs.
He also spoke about CPEC, saying that coronavirus had affected plans under it but now they were rapidly moving towards completion.
He said that the meeting of the CPEC Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) mentioned three phases, namely generation, road, and transmission. “Transmission is our basic need,” he said. “Our transmission lines are very old and that is why line losses are high.”
Prime Minister Imran Khan said that no investment had been made in the transmission lines in the previous periods.
Mentioning the future goals, he said that now his focus is on industrial development as without industrial development the country cannot move forward and the national debt cannot be repaid.
Imran Khan said that increasing the use of new technology would remove obstacles to industrial development and would definitely increase the national exchequer.
Regarding the rise in commodity prices, he said that coronavirus affected the supply chain and thus increased commodity prices all over the world but reassured that it was temporary and normal life will be restored as soon as the vaccination process is completed.
Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed hope that the effects of the next wave of the coronavirus would be lessened as soon as the whole nation was vaccinated.
