Arabian Sea hurricanes could affect Sindh coastal areas

A tropical storm is forming in the northeastern Arabian Sea, which is likely to bring torrential rains and strong winds to the coastal areas of Sindh and Makran.

The Meteorological Department has issued an alert that air pressure is low in the eastern Arabian Sea and a depression is forming 340 km east and southeast of Karachi which can intensify in the next 24 hours, forming a tropical storm.

The Meteorological Department has further said that the storm will move northwest. It is likely to rain in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, and Badin this afternoon or evening till October 2, since, according to Director Meteorology Department Sardar Sarfraz, the low air pressure is fast decreasing.

Sardar Sarfraz also said that low wind pressure could take on the form of a cyclonic storm. Rain is also likely across Sindh and, urban flooding in cities is also a risk.

It is to be noted that Karachi continued to experience hot winds last night due to the impending cyclone in the Arabian Sea.

The administration is claiming that it is preparing to deal with the rains.

Thatta, Badin, Dadu, Degree, Umerkot, and other cities of Sindh received thundershowers last night which damaged crops. These cities are also at risk of flooding and weak buildings could be damaged. Power supply was suspended in many areas.

Furthermore, Lasbela, Sonmiani, Ormara, Pasni, Gwadar, Turbat, and Jiwani are also at risk of torrential rains and urban flooding.

The Meteorological Department said that there is a danger of flood in the sea also so the fishermen have been instructed not to go into the sea from today till October 3.
